Following are the most frequently asked questions about our school. If you have a question that is unanswered, please email us or send a message via messenger to our Facebook page.
How can we enrol our children?
The Ministry of Education has finalised and confirmed the opening zone for Te Matauru Primary.
To check if you are in our zone, please go to this page.
Will you offer before and after school care?
Yes we will. We are currently tendering with providers and will advise once this process is completed. We plan to offer before school, after school and term holiday programmes.
What is the building design for the school?
We have a “power of two” model in which two teachers collaborate together with a group of learners. With this in mind we have commissioned learning spaces with flexibility to ensure learners can have a strong sense of identity, agency, belonging and security with their teachers in a manageable space. These are typically smaller than what might be called “modern learning environments”. We also have some larger learning spaces which will be used as required for different groups.
We will share further details of our learning spaces through community meetings in 2019.
What size will the school be?
The stage one build is for a capacity of 350 and will open at the start of 2020. The stage two build allows capacity for 700 students. This has not been scheduled to a definite timeframe and will occur as the roll grows. Core infrastructure (admin block, playground, outdoor areas) have been designed with our maximum size in mind.
Is there a uniform?
NZ Uniforms are our uniform supplier. We will share our uniform with the community in the near future.
I live in your zone but go to another school. What does this mean for us?
If you live in the Te Matauru Zone then
a) you can retain your place at your current school for current and future members of your family under a grandparenting agreement as long as you continue to live at your current address. if you move address (even within zone), you will lose this entitlement, unless your current school agrees to your continuing enrolment as an out of zone enrolment.
b) you can transfer your child to Te Matauru Primary.
In short – you have choices of schools! If you are in this situation and considering Te Matauru, we recommend talking to both schools so that you understand all implications of any decisions you make.
When will you be employing staff for the school?
Teaching positions at Te Matauru Primary will be advertised in the Education Gazette and featured on our school website, facebook and twitter accounts as they arise. Educators wishing to be considered for part time/ relief work from February 2020 onwards are welcome to email their details to email@example.com
Support staff and administrative roles will be advertised in the final quarter of 2019. All these roles will be advertised on the school Facebook page and in some instances in the Northern Outlook.
What is your philosophy on Play Based Learning?
We are currently undergoing Professional Development in Learning through play. We see benefits in this and there will be an element of Learning through play integrated into our curriculum over the whole school.
